As an AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteer, you can make a big difference in someone’s life – in a short amount of time.
Many older taxpayers with low to moderate income miss out on credits and deductions they’ve earned. Tax-Aide offers free tax-filing help to those who need it most. Since 1968, we’ve helped over 80 million people.
You don’t have to be a tax pro to volunteer with us — there are many ways to get involved. Best of all, giving back with your new friends at Tax-Aide is rewarding and the camaraderie and support makes volunteering fun.

There’s A Role For Everyone
We’re looking for individuals to volunteer in a number of roles. In addition to tax counselors, Tax-Aide also needs people who can provide technical and communications assistance, interpreters, and program leaders. All levels and types of experience are welcome.
Good with the fine print?
Tax counselors help taxpayers find credits and deductions they’ve earned and file their tax returns. Learn how to prepare taxes and meet standards set by the IRS.
Love working with people?
Client facilitators welcome taxpayers, help organize their paperwork and manage the overall flow of service.
Skilled in all things digital?
Technology coordinators manage computer equipment, ensure taxpayer data is secure, and provide technical assistance to volunteers at different local sites.
Have a knack for running things?
Leadership and administrative volunteers make sure program operations run smoothly, manage volunteers, track volunteer assignments and site activities, and maintain quality control.
Speak a second language?
We have a big demand for bilingual speakers in all roles, especially dedicated interpreters who can assist other volunteers.
Want to help us get the word out?
Communications coordinators promote and help recruit local volunteers.
